Welcome!

As I am just beginning this blogging adventure here on our farm’s site, I thought I’d use this first post as a means of introducing myself and the rest of our little family.

I am Keri. The content you find here will often come directly from me. I am the Farmer’s Wife, and I love being it. I grew up in a nearby town with wonderful parents and an older brother. I love to learn all kinds of things, am often lost in researching something. I produce much of the (mediocre) photos and videos you’ll find here. In addition to being the Farmer’s Wife, I am also mom, director of our church’s children’s ministry, an occasional substitute teacher. I love to cook but often create my recipes as I go; I then regret not making notes, so I can reproduce the dish later.

Chad is the farmer. We live where he grew up, purchasing it after his mother’s death. He has dreamed of raising livestock here for years. He is the drive behind every year’s vegetable garden and the brains behind the master plan. He loves to hunt, works hard to support a healthy deer population, and has taught our 2 older kids to love hunting, too. He cleans and butchers all our venison and poultry. His laugh is the BEST and will make you laugh – even if you are mad at him.

We were married in 1992. Yes, we are that old.

Black Fox Acres – our family

Our oldest, Amber, is a sophomore at Auburn University. She is the other main contributor here, often writing, photographing, creating recipes, and sharing her humor and talent with cooking videos from her apartment kitchen. She manages our social media activity and has much to teach me there.

Chance, our son, is a newly-minted teenager. He is our tall, analytical, tender-hearted farm-hand. He loves to dig holes and play Minecraft and is always doing math in his head. It is amazing watching him grow and learn and become a man. (Just realized that the above photo is a couple of years old. Chance and Chad are the same height now.)

Hannah is our caboose. She is made of glitter and gunpowder. Do not underestimate what she can do, she will find a way. She is the one who taught us that every single milestone is a miracle. Born with a genetic condition, she has had several surgeries to correct orthopedic and respiratory issues. The typical third child, she dresses herself in her own, unique style. She is the perfect example of a natural leader.

We have had a variety of dogs and cats over the years. Our current fur family members are Buck Aroo, a year-old black Lab, and Trey Kitty, a yellow tabby who allowed Buck to live and regrets it daily.

The only truly important thing you should know about our family is that we serve a loving God and are thankful for his saving mercy through his Son, Jesus, and the redemptive work of the cross. We hope everything we do honors him and his Kingdom. Without him, our lives have no meaning.

If you want to know more about how you can have peace with God, we are always glad to talk about it.

–blessings,
Keri
